Stage 1 began in May 2024. The plan is to connect the Aln Valley Greenway to the new Borderline Greenway at Alnwick Greensfield via a traffic free path.

The former Alnwick to Cornhill disused railway line is being cleared, a new footbridge constructed, new stock fencing fitted, and original drainage reinstated as far as near Half Crown Well beyond Rugley Wood. The aim to create a multi use trail, away from cars for walkers, runners, horseriders and people with movement difficulties
